MONTHLY MUSE – FAITH HOWE

Our May MONTHLY MUSE is Faith Howe who is an Associate Director with executive search firm Taylor Bennett.

Hoppy

Faith in her Bailey Dress

Describe your job in a few lines?

I am an executive search consultant in the corporate communications industry.  I work with a whole range of different clients from Government departments to investment banks and blue chip multinational brands helping them to find the best senior level communicators.  No day is ever the same in the world that I work in, you are balancing the needs of companies and individuals, always striving to give the best advice and build lasting, trusting relationships.

What’s been the highlight of your career so far?

The highlight of my career was being the first company sponsored employee to undertake an MBA.  Through the course I learned the language of business, built an international network of fabulous contacts and friends, and met my now husband!

What was the most memorable occasion you wore a Libby London dress?

Too many to decide! I wear my Libby London dresses when I need feel my best, and really impress.  Whether I am pitching for new business or hosting clients for evening events my dresses suit every occasion.  Probably most memorable was when I wore my red Grove dress to Buckingham Palace to meet the private secretary of a senior member of the Royal household.  As I walked back across the long court yard in front of the palace all of London’s tourists were looking in through the railings and wondering who I was!  I think they were probably quite disappointed as I got closer and they realised I was no one of note…

What piece of career advice would you give to your 20yr old self?

Professional qualifications are an invaluable addition to your ‘kit-bag’.  Pursuing a profession whether it is law, accountancy or engineering will really set you apart – even if you go on to do something else once qualified.  The foundation of a professional qualification will always give you something to fall back on and opens up many more opportunities in the world of work.

Whose style do you admire the most?

This is a hard one; I am not really the sort of person who follows others style.  Of course the Duchess of Cambridge is a style icon; who wouldn’t want to dress like her. I like classic styles with clean lines so the ‘newsreader’ look often catches my eye – Kate Silverton and Natasha Kaplinsky always look great.

What been your worst office fashion faux pas?

Oh there have been many.  The worst I would have to be a boxy double breasted navy blue blazer with gold metal buttons and shoulder pads.  I wore it when I was in my early 20s.  In theory it could have been okay, if better styled and worn in a different way, but instead it looked like I had chosen it out of a dressing-up cupboard.  I thought I looked very smart and grown up at the time.

Should office wear be fashionable or functional?

Definitely both which is why I adore my Libby London dresses.  And add to that easy to organise in the morning.  There is nothing worse than being late for work and having to think through your outfit and try on different tops, jackets and cardigans to find a match.  A smart dress takes away all of this trouble; a pair of tights and some great shoes and you’re set!

If you had to choose working with all women or all men, what would it be?

Hmm.  I like a mix, I think everyone does, but if I had to choose I would say all women.  I do enjoy girl chat, and appreciate the empathy that comes from other women who understand how you feel.

What’s your fantasy alternative job?

I would love to be an executive assistant or chief of staff to someone famous and powerful in the corporate world.   As well as building my own experiences I do enjoy to live vicariously through the experiences of others, it motivates me to push ahead and become successful in my own right. I love the interest and exposure that you get from being close to excellent people who are influential across companies and networks.   http://www.taylorbennett.com

OCTOBER MONTHLY MUSE – SIDNEY CELIA ROSS – Withers LLP

Describe your job in a few lines?

I am responsible for Italian marketing at international law firm, Withers (www.withersworldwide.com). The firm has an office in Milan and Italian Desks in the UK and throughout Europe.  The firm assists Italian Luxury Brands and Italian entrepreneurs as well as international businesses with Italian connections worldwide.

What’s been the highlight of your career so far?

Meeting some of the movers and shakers in the Italian business world such as Sante Versace, Nicoletta Maramotti (Max Mara), Sergio Marchionne (CEO of Fiat).

What was the most memorable occasion you wore a Libby London dress?

A seminar on “Financial Crime – the Long Arm of English Law” – held at our Milan office in October. I needed something extra special to help me keep up with the Italians in the style stakes!

What piece of career advice would you give to your 20yr old self?

Learn languages and be as “international” as you can. Now more than ever we live in a global world .

What type of style do you aspire to the most?

Simple straightforward styling and strong colours – I am a tall lady and therefore not a frills person

What is the worst office fashion faux pas ?

Wearing something just because it is “in fashion” even if it doesn’t suit your colouring or figure.

Should office wear be fashionable or functional?

Both, absolutely! Women have to dress for the role they wish to play – they are judged by their appearance whereas men can get away with murder from this point of view.

If you had to choose working with all women or all men, what would it be?

All women– I have worked for several female bosses throughout my career and have always been inspired by their drive and energy.

What’s your fantasy alternative job?

Crisis PR … turning a crisis into an opportunity ….or at least not a disaster.

Milli Millu

20121003-154934.jpg

We’ve all got one of those handbags that hide all of life’s important essentials away in its dark corners… especially when the jolly little sound of a mobile phone ringing its heart out emerges from deep within; of course, the call goes to answer phone… because moments like this come when we’re on an overcrowded tube and the bosses name is then lit up on the ’missed calls’ screen. Damn. Luckily we have found the perfect work-friendly bags to finish off your Libby London look – Milli Millu have answered all our prayers! A bag that can multitask as well as us!

Their collection of stylish shoulder bags have 5 compartments: laptop, paperwork, phone, ‘my things’ (a handy zip pocket) and separate pens holders! Better yet, you don’t even have to take the bag off your shoulder to access them! They are all crafted with calf leather, in lush autumn colours such as amber, olive green, brown & honey plus, if you’re a fan of fur, why not opt for the ‘Hong Kong’ in green and black with luscious ponyskin on the centre flap!

20121003-153756.jpg

If you want something for the weekend but your job doesn’t let you take your eyes off your Blackberry how about a cute clutch that you can actually fit your phone in (and close it!)? They even have an even cuter ‘my makeup’ pocket for all the essentials making sure you stay looking your best all night long. Who can say no to a compliment eh?
Our favourites are the Libby London Astley dress teamed with Milli Millu’s The Cannes clutch or, glam it up with The Parisian in gold!

Pure and Simple

With a packed schedule, it can be easy to fall into the habit of convenient food… and by ‘convenient’ we mean fast and unhealthy… after all, who has time to prepare healthy, filling meals every day? Not us, that’s for sure. In an ideal world, we’d have food delivered to our doors (and offices)….

So we went on the search for dining services with career people in mind and found exactly what we were looking for… The Pure Package. Launched in 2003 by Jennifer Irvine, the company is based on providing food programmes for busy people without compromising on health and dietary nutrition. What’s also interesting about this company is that they are very ethically sound and focus on ethical ingredients, packaging and delivery.Irvine herself says:

“My philosophy is that you can reach your health goals whilst enjoying delicious nutritionally balanced convenient food. ”

Healthy Skin and Ageing Sample

Chefs, dietary specialists and nutritionists all assist in creating these food packages which are then delivered to customers anywhere in London. Deliveries can be tailored to your personal diary and each daily package gives you the correct balance of carbohydrates, protein and fat. After signing up online and having a consultation, a specialist will choose a programme based on your individual needs as well as height, weight and lifestyle choices; the programme options include the likes of: weight loss, healthy eating, training support, pre and post baby, skin and ageing, brain balance, detox and vegetarian. We’ve been drooling over all of the sample menus in the office today! Also, as the snacks, breakfasts and lunches are all designed to be eaten cold, you really can dine and dash of to your next meeting – that really is convenience for you…

With the flexibility and customer service offered by The Pure Package, it’s a wonder that they have gained quite a celebrity following… just head over to their Celebrity Fans page here, to read reviews from well known personalities, as well as their Testimonials page here to read endless reviews from customers who have seen results from their Pure Package service. Here is one example of a testimonial from a please customer who lost 15lb with the Pure Package:

“Three years of working 12-18 hour days (and far too many weekends) left me with lazy eating habits and 30lbs of extra weight.  Living alone also meant that if I did miraculously find the time to cook healthy food, I’d be eating the same thing for days in a row. Finally, I resolved that it was time for a change: I wanted to have energy again and to feel good about the way I looked. Enter Pure Package.

A little over a year later, my workload is still intense but there are 15lbs less of me to stress out over it. The weight-loss has been wonderful. But the real benefits have been the education and the extra ‘free time’. Sure, I knew about my 5 a day. But I didn’t know that the simple act of eating fruit and nuts together would keep my blood sugar stable – and this would lower my food cravings…”

In the name of all things British and to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee, The Pure Package is also offering a Limited Edition Diamond Jubilee Menu, celebrating our food heritage, and the exciting transition food has taken over the past few decades since the launch of Coronation Chicken at the Queen’s Coronation in 1953.

Celebrate the Jubilee with Pure Package and expect to eat the likes of a spiced chicken open sandwich (a Pure Package take on Coronation Chicken), Prawn Cocktail or Asian Prawn and Noodle Broth. (yummy!!)

Whose Shoes? Mi Shoes!

There is a single fact of life that cannot be disputed with; a girl can never have too many pairs of shoes. Just ask our good friend Carrie Bradshaw! However, when it comes to the cost of a new pair of beauties and finding space to put them, let’s face it, there are problems, ladies…

So we were pleasantly surprised at the discovery of Mi, a UK based company which sells designer inspired shoe clips aimed at revamping your current collection! Designer and founder Wendy May creates rhodium plated diamante additions to your shoes, meaning that you can give your reliable old favourites a face lift – we can’t think of anything cooler than that!

Below we’ve matched up some of our favourite clips from Wendy’s collection with some Libby London classics. Enjoy!

Danby and Samantha Clips

Our classic Danby dress, with gorgeous A line skirt and wide V neck is a versatile staple that can be dressed up or dressed down with accessories. What better way to dress up this look than with Mi’s Samantha clips on a tan shoe? At only £18.50, Team Libby London thinks these are a steal for what is essentially creating a brand new shoe! Genius.

Bailey and Grace Clips

Career girls on the go can sometimes suffer with footwear that either hates feet, or is just really boring! So what better way to still inject the glamour factor into your look than with a pair of Mi’s clips on some flats? We’ve chosen the Grace clips to go with our Bailey dress. The gorgeous pencil skirt bottom and stylish double collar is a perfect classic look to accessorise with pearls. Wendy’s Grace design, priced at £18.50, features a small round clip with faux pearl cluster just the right size to attach to some flats for an understated day look.

Don’t tell the other dresses, but Astley is definitely a customer favourite from our first collection. 100% silk, it oozes understated luxury and can make you feel fabulous any day of the week! We’ve chosen Wendy’s Isabella design for this dress; made of three carefully crafted flowers in a subtle curve, these £24.50 diamante beauties will sit perfectly on killers heels – a must have for every fashionista!

Our customers have reported back and it seems you lovely ladies are wearing Thames at weddings – a fabulous idea! This silk dress is the perfect design for formal events as the sleeves and length mean it is appropriate for day time celebrations right the way into the evening. We’ve chosen our Oyster Thames to go with Mi’s Maria clips.
